WB Animation Character Design, YOUNG JUSTICE, John Stewart/Green Lantern. Pencil, Photoshop color.
Yes, he DOES appear briefly at the end of the premiere episode. Nearly EVERYbody makes an appearance. It was like a descending of the entire pantheon of Greek gods! Hahaha! Anyway, this is my design for the Stewart Green Lantern, based on the art style of Mr. Phil Bourassa (Lead Character Designer). For his physical features, I think I subconsciously must have designed him after actor Henry Simmons (NYPD Blue). Compare using this: [link]
*DISCLAIMER!!! -- It must be noted that I took liberties with the lantern logo, in the interests of individuality. Distinction among the GL Corps can be refreshing indeed. However, beyond any stylish redesign of their overall outfits, the Guardians at DC Comics (Legal, and otherwise) felt that the iconic GL insignia must not be altered. Actually, I both agree and disagree with that position. But I did have fun with it, so I'm presenting the unaltered version here, just for kicks.
I like your version of the logo, though for me it's a bit too bright. But who knows, maybe it acts like the police siren lights and starts glowing on and off when the lantern needs to display authority?
When I heard about the insignia being kept the same, I thought the alternative one might have been too radical but now I see that it wasn't! The GL comic books have had similar variations in the past even, and I approve of yours.
Hey, I didnt know Green Lantern was the host of the Daily Show! lol (I cant be the first person to make that joke)
I love it, tho. These are the kinds of designs I wish were in more cartoons nowadays: stylish enough to stand out, but anatomical enough to have a foot in reality.
Anyway, great design!
