YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION: BIBBO-PUPPET by Jerome-K-Moore YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION: BIBBO-PUPPET by Jerome-K-Moore
WB Animation Character Design, YOUNG JUSTICE, Bibbo-Puppet. Pencil, Digital Color.

In the Season Two episode, "Alienated," Bibbo Bibbowski, owner/operator of Bibbo's Diner, is the latest person to be revealed by the YJ Team to be-- controlled by an alien!!! In a dramatic chase through a back alley, "Bibbo" is felled with one punch by the real Bibbo, and as the downed imposter's abdomen splits open, a little Krolotean Driver emerges from this puppet to make his escape.

Bibbo Bibbowski was originally created for DC Comics by Jerry Ordway, and my friend Marv Wolfman. The character reminds me of Popeye The Sailor, but despite the various similarities, I'm not sure if there is an intended homage. With my personal choice of colors, I thought Bibbo should have a ruddy, or swarthy complexion, due to his years spent as a longshoreman. And since he's such an unabashed fan of Superman, I allowed his clothes to reflect the traditional red-and-blue of the Man of Steel.

Once again, I was called upon to depict a macabre scene image, as a humanoid robot opens up to reveal an alien dwelling within. Although the final animation shows the clothes being ripped open on the Bibbo-Puppet (a la "ALIEN"), I didn't feel that to be realistic in this case. In my depiction, the hatchway doors simply push the shirts and apron aside. It's less dramatic, of course, but I prefer this solution. Your mileage may vary. Haha!

*Bibbo Bibbowski, and the Kroloteans are the copyrtighted property of WB TV Animation, and DC Comics.

Okay, now that you mention it, the ripping clothes are going to bother me. I guess they have an extensive wardrobe budget. ;-)

Ya know... You're being funny, but that's actually a pretty cool idea. Hahaha! If this character were a real hit, Marketing would definitely steal that idea right from under you.

I'm not sure I have to worry about that. I heard, that because the shows fans have been off put recently, sales for the Young Justice action figure line have plummeted. I even heard that many of the action figure lines were being canceled.

"There's only one Bibbo, and don't you forget it!"
That was an awesome scene and that punch really took me by surprise, comepletely off the left field.

I loved "Darth" Kaldur in this episode too!
Kinda basing my player character in a friend's camptain of Cthulhutech on him, with some twists. (for those who are savvy about the game, is it possible to have a Tager with Xenomix parentage. human mother, Nazzadi father?)

I just recently happened to catch the show for the first time and this happened to be the episode. I'm inclined to agree that a less theatrical "reveal" for the aliens would seem more insidious, but it doesn't seem to me that the writers are going for subtlety on this show.

The design for the Black Manta armor was very satisfying, was that you? I was always fascinated and frustrated with the original Super Friends design for the character... was B.M. human? If so, how does he see through the lenses?

But, I have to admit that the thing that bugged me the most was the breadth of the explosion that the Aqualad/Black Manta character set off. Judging by the curvature of the Earth in relationship to the expanding scale of the explosion-- it was an extinction level event... atmospheric changes, tidal fluctuation, tsunamis, etc. But anyway, I feel stupid just talking about an explosion in a damn cartoon. lol

Lastly, I hate it when they split the screen and promote the next program and speed through the credits so quickly. I look forward to seeing your name on stuff. :-)

He was awesome in the show, wished his cameo was longer. He felt real solid and like a well rounded character.

Yeah but I still had to redraw your guide onto it, they reformat the image when it gets into my hands and then we have to adjust the threshold, so I can't just slap your shadow layer on top. In any case good work Rome.

while I've only seen one episode of the new season I'm really glad that the second has proved to allow for further designs and alterations. Admittedly i was concerned it would be some time skip it was all a dream nonsense *who knows* but I have to say the Krolos so far seem to a very well thought out species. Much preferred to the Xenos but that's just me
