WB Animation Character Design, YOUNG JUSTICE, Alfred Pennyworth. Pencil, Digital Color.
Also making a cameo appearance in the YOUNG JUSTICE "Downtime" episode, is Bruce Wayne's loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth. I hadn't drawn Alfred since my early days in comics, pencilling a few issues of WORLD'S FINEST. I furnished two variations of the character to Lead Designer, Phil Bourassa, one with white gloves, and one without. As spiffy as the white gloves look, they do come off as too formal, and so we didn't use them.
I think that Alfred, as a character, is one of the most selfless, indispensable, and admirable in all of pop literature. Clearly, he is a central figure in the life of The Batman, and he is, as originally conceived, the most dependable and trustworthy of all Wayne's civilian cohorts. I think it's safe to say that, without Alfred, there would be no Batman, or Robin, or Nightwing, etc.. Alfred rocks!
The color selections are my own, and may not reflect those used in the final screen version. Alfred Pennyworth is a copyrighted character of DC Comics.
Alfred's always been my favorite character and you made him look so awesome! I've always wondered how he cleans that big ol' house and is always available to help batman 24/7 possibly robots And he's always so suave and level headed, out of all DC's non-hero characters Alfred trumps ALL!
In Christopher Nolan's first Batman film, there's evidence of a house staff early in young Bruce's life (a logical idea of which I approve). But later on, everyone else but Alfred seems to disappear. Clearly, we can't trust too many people with such dark secrets. So, maybe Alfred has a number of clones? Haha!
