Marvel Animation Character Design, Ultimate Spider-Man, HYDRA VULTURE. Digital Art.
In one of the early episodes of the Fourth Season of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, the evil Doctor Octopus provides the mutated youth, Adrian Toomes, with specially-equipped Hydra armor to use on a most deadly mission.
Now, I absolutely hate designing anything technical, so this was yet another tough challenge for me, under the relentless pressure of deadlines and tight schedules. My art director demanded lots of fussy mechanical detail, furnishing reference from various video game designs culled from online. Anyway, I began by adhering to the vulture motif, incorporating feathery shapes into the armor segmentation. The small energy pods on his belt deliberately resemble eggs, and the large bulbous yoke atop the shoulders is meant to recall the white feathery ruff from the original Steve Ditko comics version, as well as serving as the jet-pack module round the back, and the housing for the huge metallic wings. I had to come up with a separate schematic to demonstrate how the wings emerge and deploy, and I did this with a very limited animation sequence. Even if I despise doing something, I still try to give it plenty of thought, and hard work.
These colors are my own, added after the fact, and they do not reflect what appears in the final screen version.
And of COURSE, they ignored my instruction that there is no need for the Hydra Vulture's wings to FLAP! Morons.

Question, though, just for clarification sake, when Adrian is in the armor, he is human form, correct? In his vulture form, there's no way his wings could possibly fit or operate properly in that heavy thing. Plus, the suit has a button that is exactly his sonic screeches. I remember him pressing a button on his suit before unleashing on the episode.
