SKELEGRO POTTER by Jerome-K-Moore SKELEGRO POTTER by Jerome-K-Moore
Unused WB Product Art, HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS. Pencil.

After being attacked during Quidditch by a bewitched bludger and suffering a broken arm, Harry Potter's condition is made worse by the bumbling efforts of Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, wizard fraud. The bones in Harry's arm have been accidentally removed entirely! Madame Pomfrey to the rescue! But Harry must take a nasty dose of Skele-gro in order to return to normal, a painful remedy indeed.

Here, Hermione holds out Harry's dosage, as a gawking Ron Weasley looks on in disbelief at Harry's rubbery arm.

This art fell through the cracks at WB Marketing, along with many other illustrations, due to executive misdirection regarding the proper design approach. The expensive art program resembled neither book nor film, and was eventually scrapped.

that happened to me too, man...its CRAZY! i saw it myself, and always had to shake my head. i did some harry potter stuff back in 2000, with studio 3060. i would work on ENDLESS versions for them that would get notes on them, only to have the FIRST version be the one they would choose!
but, it was a check, neh?(of course, my harry potter drawings look like harry SQUATTER next to yours, bro!) i wonder how many times they came to you guys to seek your opinions on what YOU thought would be a great idea before they sent you on a creative goose chase!..oh, well thats an issue for another conversation.

Actually, had they but asked us in the first place, they would've saved millions of dollars. But "the suits" never petition the wisdom of the guys "in the trenches." They may posture and pretend, but they esteem themselves too highly in their lofty positions, and will flaunt their authority to the end. Heads rolled after all was said and done regarding the Studio Stores/3060 fiasco. My director Frank and I simply shook our heads.

Frank may actually bear a modicum of blame in the whole financial blunder, since he joined forces with our department head to initially block the Potter Project from coming in-house. The result was the enlistment of 3060, and further dissatisfaction from WB execs and JK Rowling herself. I was thankful to Frank at the time, but he couldn't manage to fend off the assignment indefinitely. Dave and I got the news shortly before I was nearly killed in my car crash.

Ahh.... Memories.... lol

yeah...i remember that!(how are you doing BTW?) i knew it was bad, but i had no way to get at you to drop my encouragement to you(my apologies for that)..anyways, i'm thankful you are still here!
ironically, i was shaking my head at the SAME time as you fellows in the triangle building, because i saw some of the transcripts(faxes i guess) from JK Rowling..she HATED the stuff! heh! that was truly one of the most OBSCENE example of waste i had ever seen. the artwork went round robin SO many times!...the same thing happened with JOSIE and THE PUSSYCATS...the good thing was(a) we got paid,(b) i got to work with jason, as well as other buddies from the comic world that i hadn't seen in a long while..
i think that this(along with your INSANE talent) is the reason that i will always tip my hat to you, bro. trial under fire only brings out the gold in you....if only fire didn't burn so much........:floating:well, now i guess i should post some of my harry crap(i mean art!)...

No apologies necessary, Wayne, pal. I felt all the love from everyone, and that's what sustained me. Jason played an especially vital role in my survival, though he would probably never admit that.

I'd love for us all to get together again sometime soon, and just have a great time like we used to.
We've all been through the Potter Wars. We can swap stories, and call Williams on the cell to mock him and his ancestors. lol

Way to many things to complement in this picture.
I love the colors used, having the characters in blue and darkened in with a darker pencil. Then having the background in red. Thats great.
I also love the level of detail of the background. So thats great too.
And I love the subject, Harry in his sickbed sort of. and his arm is cool too.
Great stuff.

i've been waiting for some time for someone to ask...so i'll tell you

When he stopped, an enemy of his, trying to get at his friends (who were also adolescent supers), shot his legs to send a message. "this isn't a kids game".

I made the quote up myself, but it was inspired by a Teen Titans graphic novel and Kid Flash fell victim.

and thats that.

I think they ruined TWO characters when DC made Bart the Flash.

Very good work as always, Jerome. I really like this design for the characters.

Sorry if these are dumb questions but....Why did you use a different color for the marvelous BG and why are some areas blue? Just personal choice or production purposes?

thats terrible about the picture :/ do you ever get discouraged when multiple pieces of your work get "thrown out" so to speak? I probably would, considering all the time and effort i would have put into it.

this is lovely though :D i've got to say, the stone wall has to be my favourite part, or maybe just the backround in general :)

Not so much. After all, I still got paid to do the work.

I get more discouraged to hear someone say, after all the effort I put into the characters, that they like the bloody BACKground best.

Good thing you're getting continuously clonked in your avatar animation, Penguin. Saves me from fetching my frying pan.

The credit, of course, goes to Rowling for such a wickedly hilarious balance between the icky and the silly. I think director Columbus managed to effectively pull off this gag onscreen, too.

You have NO IDEA how much money these big studios blow every year... on NOTHING! Just like the U.S. government! LOL!
Bad decisions and directions, and then the people in the trenches get laid off. IF the bigwigs get the axe, they leave amidst congratulatory parties and "damage control" lies, and the requisite Golden Parachute, enough money to retire on.

Ahh... capitalism.
