Personal Project, STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN. Pencil, Ink, Pen, Opaque gouache.
This was a long time ago, when I first began to work harder on rendering likenesses. I had lots and lots of work to do then. lol I was fiddling around with different solutions for half-tones using cross-hatch textures.
I found this old illustration, technically unfinished, since I didn't ink anything but the background. I took it with me to a Trek convention, and had Majel Barrett and Bibi Besch autograph it. LOL! I have NO idea why!
I haven't been to one of those shows in more than a decade! Wow! I miss the weirdness.
I love all your pieces for the old-school Star Trek... I was in love with Spock as a small child, so this movie (which came out right at that time) sort of warped my existence
I am amazed by the "old" pieces you post... they may be a teeny, tiny bit less polished than your newer stuff, but they are absolutely equally solid.
I didn't really like star trek until this summer. My sister got all obsessed with Next Generation and stuff.
I love it!

Some people say the glass is half empty. Others say the glass if half full. I say cut the glass in half and its full ((or pour the stuff out and its empty))
I look forward to stealing cheese from you soon! XD
LOL! Funny that you say your existence was 'warped' by the Trek film.

"Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport or lust or greed... Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death."
You, TOO, will be one with The BORG. Resistance is futile.

Well, when you're 4-5 years old and have an EPIC crush on Spock, seeing him die on film is a bit mind-blowing! Even then I knew it wasn't "real," but still... not something easy to process at that age
I'm really honored by the favorite; thank you! And I like your motto -- mine is currently something I found in a fortune cookie: "Delay is the deadliest form of denial" -- which scares me out of procrastinating. But yours is much more positive
LOL! Well, this is the first film quote I've used so far. It's from LORD OF THE RINGS... Gandalf the Grey. I've previously used my own observations as quotes.
You're welcome. I like that piece. The shadow from the tree really establishes an outdoors atmosphere for the illustration that's idyllic and inviting, and the rendering of all the elements is pleasing to the eye. The perspective is cool, and the vehicles, too. And, yeah, the girl ain't bad either. lol
You had a thing for Spock at THAT age? Wow! You started young. Must've been the pointed ears. lol
Trek II remains my favorite "episode," though I personally feel they should not have resurrected Spock. It makes all that emotion at his death so empty. Yes, you're happy to have him back, but things ring hollow whenever literature or film does gimmicky stuff like that. Don't kill the character in the first place if you're just manipulating the audience.
The reverse was true of the ALIEN series. In the second film, they create this warm "mother/daughter" relationship between Ripley and Newt. And then at the start of the third film, they kill off the little girl, and all that emotional connection is flushed down the toilet. Bad, formulaic writing.

I'm running out of adjectives to describe your work, so I'm retrogressing to the vocabulary of a second grader.
