LOST IN SPACE: THE ROBINSONS by Jerome-K-Moore LOST IN SPACE: THE ROBINSONS by Jerome-K-Moore
Comic Book Cover, Innovation Comics, LOST IN SPACE #3. Pencil, Ink, Brush, Opaque gouache. I have such fondness for this old television show, and was fortunate enough to befriend actor/musician Bill Mumy (Will Robinson). He wrote this short-lived comic series after fighting long and hard to get a publisher and the legal rights. Bill is one of the finest gentlemen I've ever met, and has a wonderful family of his own. His children (son Seth, daughter Liliana) have followed him into success in film and television.

In this piece, I incorporated elements of the early season episodes (the silver spacesuits), as well as the memorable opening from the final season... the animated pips behind where the title would go, and the 7 to 1 countdown that was always accompanied by John Williams' stirring theme music.

Excellent likeness, and you capture the look and feel of the cast quite well. Lost in Space was a great attempt at a time when science fiction was relegated to Saturday afternoon flying saucer and giant bug schlock. Even though it went off the rails after the first season, it did pave the way for "Star Trek", "The Invaders", "Time Tunnel", "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and "Land of the Giants", and many other Sci-Fi shows and movies. Still, I remember that a really good comic book franchise that was the seed that started it all. Before Irwin Allen brought Lost in Space to television  Gold Key Comic Series, "Space Family Robinson", published its first issue in December 1962. That later added "On Space Station One", and in 1966 "Lost in Space". I wish someone on this site, like yourself, would do some art of Space Station One, the Spacemobiles, and characters, etc...

Wonderful.  I have many fond memories of the show from childhood (particularly my parents letting me know a 'new space show' was coming on, allowing me to catch it from the first episode), and it's still one of my favorite SF series.

This excellent drawing makes me want to watch it again, and do a few LIS illos of my own, something I've not done since the old LISFAN days...

Well, anyway, thanks for sharing this!
