Kayley, from Warner Bros animated feature QUEST FOR CAMELOT. Pencil. Product art. Though the film was a complete disaster, my responsibility was to make the art for licensing as appealing as possible. The Disney influences are apparent, and this direction, without delivering on that standard, was the downfall of this property
hm this girl looks cute, nice lines.. and i liked the movie.. maybe it was not "special".. but it was good.
can i ask why it was a "complete disaster"?

Hello, Doc. Thanks so much for all your kind words. It's greatly appreciated. Here's a long-winded answer for ya. Ready?
Any film venture is deemed a failure, by the studio's standards, when it is not profitable. By this yardstick, Quest was, as I stated, a "completed disaster." It also falls short when evaluating its overall story structure. Due to internal turmoil at Feature Animation and a departure from the original vision, many talented people left the project, and the material got watered down. Dissension among the animators yielded lackluster results, and the further intervention of Marketing led to the injection of too much political correctness, aiming what is essentially a boys film at a girls market that didn't support it. Kayley had a lot more tomboyish spunk at the outset. The fact that you enjoyed the film is a pleasant testimony to individual tastes. But in the end, the box office tally prevails. The trouble was that, with Disney's tremendous success with Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King, studio execs at WB wanted to copy their formula instead of expanding the market by being original. The classic Looney Tunes shorts were successful by being irreverent and vastly different from their sweeter Disney competition. The producers of Quest would have done better to boldly stand out. But instead they chose to copy... poorly.
ya i get what you are sayin..
many people (producers and i dont know) forcing their ideas on you.. that in the end will fuck everything up.
one of my worst nightmares is .. someday havin a great story and people messin arround with it, so that the essence of the story is chaning..
(i mean i wanna do comics one day and would love to work on films like disneymovies or wb.. )

Wow. That's adoration! Congratulations with that! As long as the film touched someone out there... In your case, it helped shape the future! lol
Sure, you can ink it if you like. My pleasure.

Ooh, I remember that movie. I didn't think it was actually that bad. It had some good voice talent and decent animation. I remember thinking that the CG bits weren't very well mixed in with the traditional cel animation, however. (I think that rock-ogre-thing was CG.)

"Has she read any of the Bible? God couldn't cross the street without killing half a dozen people."
Wow, I haven't seen that movie in ages! I sort of recall it and back then I thought it had a fairly good story line to it. This is a gorgious drawing and its too bad the whole movie didn't do as well as it could have. Beautiful drawing all the same!
