Description

WB Animation, Character Design, JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRISIS ON TWO EARTHS, Model Citizen. Pencil, cleaned up and colored in Photoshop.

It was my challenge to design characters for animation in a style closely matching that of my friend, Phil Bourassa, the lead designer on this show.

On an alternate Earth, versions of our heroes are twisted and villainous. This is the evil variation of Looker, and her name is no more clever or imaginative. Haha! The idea was to make her as sexy as possible, but I'm rarely one to over-exploit the female form through ludicrous amounts of exposed flesh. That's just too easy, too tacky, too adolescent. Sorry.

For some reason, I was inspired by the full-body outfit worn by actress Natalie Trundy in the 1970 film, "Beneath The Planet of the Apes." As soon as I mentioned this, Bruce Timm instantly expressed his approval for this design, which was the third pass. Ideally, it would've been cool and creepy to have had her eye icons also be animated, peering in whatever direction Model Citizen gazed. But that was not in the budget, buddy.

* I was dissatisfied by the colors applied in the final screen version (as seen here: [link] ), and so I'm presenting my personal revision here.

*** At this very moment (2/22/2011), I have been informed of the sudden death of Dwayne McDuffie, the writer of this show, and creator of so many characters in the DC Universe. We are shaken and saddened here at Warner Bros. I pray for strength and comfort for his loved ones in this time of tragedy.

I also like your color scheme for MC better.
