HARRY MUDD RETURNS by Jerome-K-Moore HARRY MUDD RETURNS by Jerome-K-Moore
Comic Book Cover Art, DC Comics, STAR TREK. Pencil, Ink, Brush, Pen, Opaque gouache, China marker.

I often felt claustrophobic illustrating within the restrictive page borders, and would pack as much detail as I could into one image. I've since matured as an artist, and no longer think this way. But I did have fun funneling the complex magic of my imagination through my hands to ornately adorn the paper, unfettered by anyone's rules but my own. This was sort of a "stream of consciousness" Trek illustration. LOL! My sincerest apologies for any eye-damage you may incur.

What? Is your replicator broken? Did you have to have that batch shipped in or something? Oh well, let me go see if I can bluff a hand of cards with a Ferangi then.....lol.

I still have no clue what those things are for.

Don't play the Ferengi tables. They're rigged.

*offers Miss A some Romulan Ale, since the tranya is gone.

On the house.

I used to collect all these Star Trek comics when I was a kid, eagerly awaiting your next cover art...

I would try to draw 'em for practice, I specifically remember this Kirk face.

Years later I'm still struck by your perfectly rendered realism and stylistic touch.

You know, Harry kinda looks like Obi-wan from Star Wars when you put him in that cloak like that.

Maybe Obi-Wan after a few weeks of dining at Jabba The Hutt's table.

Very true. Man, I like to draw, but I don't know if I'd have the patience for that kind of art work. I love the static effect. Ever thought of doing any Sherlock Holmes pictures? Terrific artwork!

Hmm... The closest I've ever come to doing a Holmes piece was as it relates to Star Trek. In this case, it was an ST:TNG cover, where Data and Geordi played out another of their holodeck mysteries, except this time Geordi had to solve it alone as Dr. Watson: [link]

Nice sketch rendering of the same cover. I haven't read the actual issue, but seen the cover and find the character of harry Mudd quite fascinating.

Thanks.

I never read the issue either. HaHa! Just being honest.

Harry Mudd was less fascinating to me than he was just comic relief. He wasn't a character of any significant depth, and his actions were entirely predictable.
He was just a popular foil for Kirk, as he was wonderfully portrayed by Roger C. Carmel.

There's a lot of movement and a sense of immediacy in this one. Looking at Bones, it kinda reminds me of that one Tracy Morgan interview that's been circulating...

"The Captain used to separate his seeds out on a Stevie Wonder album cover; him and the doc used to smoke together. Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor... not the dopeman. Dammit , Jim." :-)

No eye damage here. Fantastic! What does draw (no pun intended) me in is the Klingon warship. I really like the way you drew it!!!

Yeah, that old K'Tinga class heavy cruiser was tight. It kinda got forgotten for the most part, due to the popularity of the Bird of Prey, which was also pretty sweet.

Yeah, but still like the old class heavy cruiser. Really neat how they were used in the opening for ST:TMP. Still here the music! But I also wanted to add, that your gallery is just outstanding!

Thanks, Jesse. I had fun "ghosting" each of the heads of the Trek cast. Montage designs allow lots of freedom as far as expression, composition, and funky experimentation. Of course, it's a nightmare for the color artist to sometimes figure out, with certain elements blending and bleeding into and over one another! LOL!
