Artist's Comments

HERE is a cropped version of the atrocious color painting a freelance artist did over my original illustration.

Please see: HUMBLE KAYLEY [link]

This image appears partially on the back cover to the current DVD package for THE QUEST FOR CAMELOT. In my opinion, this is an example of what NOT to do. Please note that the airbrushed shadows lack any consistent or logical light source, totally ignoring the highlight reflected in her eyes. Her left sleeve, which should be lying on top of her raised arm, now appears to be floating, due to the shadow choices. The same is true of the bottom of her tunic, above her thighs.
There's a ceramic look to every texture, including her skin and hair, making everything seem like it's made of the same material.
Also, my original lines were painted over with little care, warping her left eye, and demolishing the shape of her fingers. I could go on, but hopefully you all can see for yourselves. Package-art standards notwithstanding, this is BAD art. Unprofessional. Browse my gallery for perspective. Despite my earnest efforts to achieve an acceptable level of quality, it ultimately meant nothing once this freelancer wrought havoc. You can imagine my discouragement.

ALL of this, and much, much more. This illustration is NOT the worst of it. This "artist" mangled, destroyed, oBLITerated many of my pieces, including HARRY POTTER, and HAPPY FEET (I've posted them here undefiled.). And whenever I dared to dispute this person's "expertise," I was addressed like an amateur, and shut down by WB executives. Yet, this person continues to be paid very well, working for top clientele, is married to one of my former art directors, and TEACHES an art class in Southern California!!! A-mazing!

I can't believe some people are faving this garbage.
STOP FAVING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!

Funny how WB works ain't it? *rolls eyes*

At first glance it does look like an OK coloring job, but after reading all that, I can completely sympathize over why it irks you.

Oh no - this is on the BACK of the DVD cover? AAAAAAAAAH!!! :(

I feel your pain! :( Shoot, it would've been more awesome if the DVD cover (and back) was entirely black and white with your sketchies! ;P

Well, maybe some people are satisfied with art that will be just "glanced at." For me that's not good enough. EVER. Art should be something that people want to stare at, take some time appreciating, and they should want to revisit it.

I refuse to churn out McDrawings, with little more quality than a Happy Meal.

But I'm sure this person would've been pleased to have gotten your 'OK,' and cashed a big fat paycheck.

Sorry to be snippy, Spootay.
Thanks for your kind sympathy.

Me thinks someone should probably learn to colour his own art digitally so this doesn't happen again.
Although, if I may add, it COULD have been worse. This doesn't look THAT bad.
